Liked having the river so close Pleasent and helpful staff Very clean throughout Grounds lovely we were here in winter but they must be stunning in summer Liked sitting in the library by the open fire Cosily decorated for Christmas Good menu choices for dinner Good value wine Breakfast tasty and well presented with good coffee
  : Room and corridors too hot because the weather had been mild It is remote and roads not good so would advise arriving in daylight

  : The building and restoration is to a good standard including the rooms. Visually very pleasing. Can easily see why it is a good venue for weddings and milestone birthdays Staff are nice. Choose the traditional cooked breakfast. Cocktails are nice and sitting in the library whilst the fire is on makes for a nice evening. The hallway was decorated for Christmas and looked stunning.
  : The Hotel caters more for events eg Weddings, milestone birthdays rather than as a Hotel, the event gallery all look lovely. Staying as a hotel guest this was very evident, as everything is very much time based which is heavily stressed upon on arrival. They need evening dining time, breakfast time and check out time even thought it states strict 10.00am check out. As we had a large lunch with friends in York earlier we wasn't hungry enough for a full meal we enquired re room services if we fancied something later. No room service, but can offer sandwich's only which is fine but no sandwich menu to choose from(?) which is very odd but did make sense when they arrived some 30 mins late (after having to go down to reception to ask where they were, which goes against their time stressed structure). It seamed as though they were from the afternoon tea (left over) so quite dry but the chips were nice. It could be that the staff on that evening were over stretched or over worked as covering various roles, same person on reception and the bar and delivering the tray service, all done with a smile. Breakfast - my friends breakfast the traditional cooked English, this was presented well (looked lovely) and they enjoyed it, the 'smashed avocado, mushrooms and crispy bacon on english muffin' was not as per the menu sadly. The mushrooms being 2 slices, yes only 2 button mushroom slices were cooked in a spicy tomato paste/sauce along with a mass of chopped bacon strips. The menu should have specified this. It was not presented well at all and is the only plate I have ever returned. The staff were very lovely and offered an alternative which was great and appreciated but as my friend was already eating I declined. I would visit again as the building and staff are lovely but would change my breakfast choice.

  : Stunning property in a tranquil area, lovely staff, breakfast and a whole quality feel to the place.
  : Cold water in gardeners cottage that was compensated immediately actually enhancing the experience in the way it was dealt with - hey we all have boiler problems occassionally.

  : Charme of the House and acomodation.
  : On my birthday, I arrived with my wife at 8:45 pm?! They told me that they no longer served dinner at 8:45 pm ???? They didn't even make an exception for soup because there was nothing else in the area within a 50km radius! I went for my birthday dinner at a gas station restaurant, I ate the worst steak of my life!! They are to be congratulated !! experience never to be repeated!! a shame !!
