  : The hotel is dirty. Dirty hand rails. dirty carpets. dirty room. Filthy bathroom floor. Sheer steps - fourty to bedroom last twenty of which have very limited treads. No wi fi in room. No phone.

  : * front-of-house staff were professional, friendly and accommodating, particularly in responding to problems (see cons)* location was ideal for our purposes* the rooms were quite modern (given the hotel is quite old), clean and had some decent facilities - good bathrooms in particular* decent breakfast* peaceful and quiet - no obvious street or traffic noise
  : When scoring I have taken into account that the staff on duty did their best to accomodate our issues, including upgrading our room on the first night (unfortunately, due to the hotel being full, we were compelled to go back to our originally-allocated room).Furthermore, I accept that the hotel is an older building and thus certain facilities one would expect in a newer hotel are not practically possible to implement here.With all that said, our stay occurred on a very hot day in July and we found ourselves allocated to a room in the attic floor which was - without exaggeration - unbearably-warm. The window had been left shut and the curtains left undrawn thus the room had been bathed in stifling hot sunight for much of the afternoon, making the room feel furnace-like when we arrived that evening. We contacted reception and we were provided with an electric fan, but even with that and having opened the windows, it was abundantly-clear we would not be able to spend any time in the room, let alone sleep there.As said above, we were moved to a different room on the ground floor of the opposite side of the building, which was still very warm but at least more tolerable (note: situation was not helped by the bathroom towel rail being on full blast and not being deactivable). The windows in the new room all featured security locks which meant either they couldn't open or were restricted.Due to the busyness of the hotel, we were compelled to move back on the 2nd night to the stifling attic room, albeit the weather had cooled by 3-4 degrees by then, we had preemptively left the window open and had kept the electric fan on to facilitate air circulation. We were able to sleep only by having the fan on blowing full blast onto our bed, but it was still an uncomfortable, sweltering experience nonetheless.

  : The outside is in great need of a tidy up I don't think we would have considered it if we were walking in off the street which is a shame
