  : Nice location right in the centre of Appleby. The food was good and the staff were friendly and helpful .
  : This property is expensive and not accurately represented on this website .Our room was described as deluxe ( room 8). The painting was patchy on the walls and skirting boards esp in the bathroom ; coat rails hanging off the wall ; old paint coating the sink.It had been refurbished at some time but I’d say not by an expert and was okay if it had been £80 not £160.The stairs creaked like a house of horrors and were like something from the 1970s with old fire doors and worn out carpet . The ‘conservatory’ dining room was a cross between a shop , a coffee shop and an old add on conservatory with plastic table cloths and old rattan chairs . The lighting was bad and it was like dining in a high street cafe. The courtyard area was sad and needed lots of attention .Overall we would have been okay with the property if the room had cost a maximum of £90 and the photos represented it accurately.

  : The restaurant food was very good, dinner and breakfast.
  : Staff were stuffy, miserable and unengaging, apart from the cleaner. The whole place is very tired. I haven’t stayed here for a few years and doubt I will bother again.

  : The single room was beautifully decorated and there were free toiletries and, a big point for me, given the unpleasant cheap liquid stuff usually supplied elsewhere, a proper piece of soap. The price was very reasonable compared with alternatives.
  : The car park holds only 8 or 9 cars and is both confined and chaotic. Little thought seems to have been expended on easing the difficulties it presents to guests. There was no-one at reception when I arrived and the bell did not work. Bizarrely, there were two uneaten chips sitting on the otherwise pristine reception desk. The bed had a waterproof rubberised mattress cover which made for a slippery and sweaty night.Security was poor, with an outside fire escape leading directly from the car park onto the corridor outside my room. The doors have only mortice locks with no additional yale or security chain
