The Torrance Hotel

  : The location of the hotel was ideal for our stay plans but other than that, I was extremely disappointed by this hotel.
  : Arriving on a chilly wet evening, we were allocated Room 9, which is on the first floor and has 3 external walls. It is also located at the end of a narrow and long corridor. On entering, we discovered the room was colder than being outside? As there are no heating controls within the room, I returned to reception and was informed that the hotels heating was on its summer setting although when you went into any of the main public areas and the reception area you were hit by a wave of warm air. So it's obviously the heating to bedrooms was being kept off as all of the radiators along the corridor were stone cold. The receptionist said she would boost the heating, but this would take about 30 minutes to warm the room.We also found the room very dark, with dim lighting, dark brown wood furniture, and carpet. It only has two small windows which are covered with net curtains and had to use the mobile phone light to see anything in the wardrobe. While this boutique look and feel is probably intentional, it's not very safe, especially in a small room with very little space to walk around the hardwood bed and a floor that has a distinctive slope. The bed consists of a mattress that sits inside a raised wooden frame higher than the mattress. This is guaranteed to result in you barking your legs, shins, and back when getting in or out of the bed. There is only one double power socket in the entire room, which is inconveniently located on the window sill. We also discovered on the morning of our second night that the carpet between the bed and bathroom wall was wet, so there must be a leak from the shower which we reported this on our departure.The A la Acarte breakfast on the first morning was a nice touch, but the service and food provided was perfunctory at best. The Tea was out of a flask and stewed, so when I asked for a pot, this request seemed to be too much trouble.

  : Its close proximity to where we required.
  : I thought it was expensive for what it was, there were things in the room that didnt work properly such as the TV (bad signal). The remote didnt work properly either. There are only 2 plug sockets in the room and none next to the bed for charging phones etc.
