  : The bed was lovely and the room was a good size. There were outdoor games to play on the grounds.
  : There were sooo many cobwebs in the bedroom and the carpet looked like it had not seen a hoover for a while. The curtains were covered in dust....definately not enough attention to detail on cleanliness. There was also a strange smell as soon as you walked in to the hotel which was a little off putting. We came back late one night and realised we didn't have a key to get in...they lock the doors at 10pm we had to call their number for someone to let us in and found out the next day that we had been given 2 bedroom keys instead of one of each. There is a Cockerell in the grounds that wakes you up super early...so bear that in mind. We couldn't access the pavilion as they were holding functions both days and we couldn't use the swimming pool...it was covered!! The breakfast room was nice until water started pouring from the ceiling and I was hoping the breakfast was going to be nice but the toast wasn't toast it was more warmed bread and the bacon appeared to be deep fried...very odd. We won't be calling again unfortunately and it is such a shame because the place has so much potential.

  : Dinner awful, and overpriced- overcooked chicken, rock hard carrots, lemon pavlova that had been hacked from the roll, with a fruit compote that was just soggy dregs from the bottom of a can. My colleagues apple pie was so undercooked she couldn't eat it. - went out for the second night.Rooms need updating, not necessarily modernising but renewing. Bed side lights, but they could only be turned off from the main switch at the door. WiFi very poor. Constantly dripping shower-head.

  : Was a lovely quiet hotel with a little bit of luxury. Food was great. Staff really nice & friendly. Very hard working. Great that the weather was warm enough to use the outdoor pool. Building full of history. Had a room in the main building which was great with a very comfortable four poster bed.
  : Would be noisy if the pavilion is in use in a mews room with the loud music. Not so bad in the main hotel.

  : Whilst close to the main A14 road and hence good for travel arrangements, traffic noise was minimal. The hotel is approached by its own winding access road through trees and provides a lovely sight when it comes into view. There are quite extensive grounds - approx 6 acres - through which guests are able to wander.Our room was in one of the "Mews" units, a few yards walk from the main hotel building. Other reviews have commented upon the slightly "tired" nature of the property, both internal and external decoration, although - again as previous reviewers have commented - this possibly adds to the charm of the property. Our bedroom and its bathroom were OK although some TLC will not go amiss. The bed was comfortable and, once the external music had ended (see downside comments below), we enjoyed 2 good nights' sleep.We benefitted from some warm, sunny weather and were able to use the table and chairs which were placed outside each of the Mews units. Umbrellas would probably be appreciated during wet weather for walking across to the hotel for breakfast.Breakfast itself was very good, with some excellent hot meal options each cooked to order. The friendly and helpful dining room staff ensured that guests were properly looked after. Friendly and helpful can also be used to describe the other staff with whom we came into contact.Notwithstanding the downsides we will certainly consider staying here again if visiting the area.
  : We had booked for 2 nights and when arriving at 20.45 on the first evening and being taken to our room, were advised that the external function which was being held close to our room - it appeared to be a fundraising event with an auction (as we arrived) followed by a disco - would end at 23.00. Unfortunately the music did not end until 24.00.On the second night there was a 50th birthday party, again with disco which only concluded at 24.00. On each occasion our ability to sleep ahead of midnight was prevented due to the volume of the music which, whilst not exceptionally loud, was of a level typical of such functions, i.e. people at the functions would have needed to raise their voice in conversation to make themself heard.We had no knowledge of these functions when we booked, nor of the fact that our room would be the last in the row and hence next to the events. Mud-stained carpets and cobwebs suggested a less than thorough cleaning of the bedroom.

  : Set in beautiful grounds with the added bonus of an outdoor pool. Lots of character to this historical building ,it has a great location close to the lovely town of Bury St Edmunds. We used the cycle routes to ride into Bury, there are several cycle paths in the vicinity. We stayed in one of the Mews rooms, up a spiral staircase, nice long bath with loads of hot water.
  : The mattress was a little too hard for me and needed a topper, but didn’t bother the husband … I used the spare duvet to sleep on and then slept like a log !.
