  : Nice large room with comfy bed. Good location in the centre of Middleton. Helpful staff. Really lovely food - breakfast and dinner were very good on both nights.
  : Bathroom was a little dated but fully functional.

  : I had a single room at the back which was good because it was very quiet. The blind in the bathroom meant I could get the room dark and the bed was very comfortable so I had 2 very good nights sleep. Also unusually for a single room I had a full size bath as well as over bath shower which was fantastic to soak away my aches and pains after some very challenging walks. The breakfasts were top notch and the staff very friendly and helpful. Everything was spotless and it was a great location for our birdwatching trip.
  : My only evening meal there was disappointing in that the cooking didnt match the ambition of the menu. I had hoggett which tasted good but found it difficult to cut through some gristle and get the meat off the bone, it really needed a steak knife. I mentioned it at the end to the waitress when it was too late: I really shouldve asked for one sooner. My friends who had the same dish said the same. My room was awkwardly shaped so I had to move the chair in front of the corner when opening the door but that was a very small thing and the setup was perfectly adequate for my 2 night stay. The tv didnt work after the first evening but having mentioned it to the staff it seems there is a reception problem generally, particularly at the back of the hotel. On balance Id rather be at the back with quiet and no tv than at the front with a working tv but early morning traffic which some of my friends had.

  : good selection My real grumble about breakfast is that it starts at 8.00am. I was on a walk with a group in Upper Teesdale, starting at 9.00am. Please think about starting breakfast at 7.30.
  : See breakfast times Also. as I have a digestive issue, I have to be on a soft food diet. I looked at the menu...nothing there for me to eat. How about poached salmon, mashed potatoes, soft vegetables and parsley sauce so a guest like me could have something from the menu. Steak, chips are no good to me. I cannot swallow them. The menu needs to cater for all. Your menu was most disappointing.

  : Room with bath was very comfy. Breakfast staff member really helpful and friendly.
  : No wifi available in bedroom, had to go downstairs & because bank holiday w/e the bar and everywhere totally full, so nowhere to sit.

  : The location was good for the purpose of our trip.The staff were friendly and very helpful.The food, other than the puddings was excellent.
  : Public areas seem to have all been recently decorated.The decoration of our room (8) was tired. Bathroom walls were stained and the bath was cracked and flaking around the plughole.
