  : Having holidayed with friends in the superb main house at Stepping Stones in 2019, we were delighted to return, this time as it was only the two of us, staying in Riverside Cottage, a compact 1-bed property attached to the main house. Totally 5-star plus location, with Cottage nestled into hillside on outskirts of Ambleside, so an easy peesy stroll into town and a beautiful walk past Rydal Water into gorgeous Grasmere. Brilliant to forget about the car keys ! Also stunning, rural views and great fun to dance across the Stepping Stones !
  : Generally we were extremely happy with the Cottage, which provided a cosy, romantic retreat for our mini-break in The Lakes & we would have absolutely no hesitation in coming back ! However, just a couple of items for the Owner/Housekeepers kind attention, which we hope will be helpful for the enjoyment of future guests :- 1. the bed mattress is hugely uncomfortable & very soft, with roll together in the middle, indicating a replacement mattress is overdue. 2. there is no storage in the Ensuite, so a small mirrored cabinet above the WHB would be useful, or at the very least, a shelf for your toiletries. 3. the front door is very scabby gives a disappointing first impression and could benefit from a lick of paint. 4. the general level of cleaning lets the property down could be greatly improved.

  : Stepping stones is ideally situated away from the town centre but an easy 20 minute walk to get there. A totally chilling destination with the advantage of local amenities. Excellent location, Our habit has been to stay further south when visiting the Lake distict but I will certainly consider this as a destination in the future. Plenty of options to get out and explore the area
  : The cottage is obviously maintained to a reasonable standard however there are signs that it could do with a spring clean. Obvious signs of dust build up around the fireguard sugggest that this is not given any attention. It took us a little while to work out how to use the electric hob so some instructions might be helpfull. I came from the north and used SAT NAV to find the cottage. One reason for this was your directions seem to assume someone coming north to get there.
