  : The location was fantastic. Oostepark is a pretty relaxing place, and the city centre is just 20 minutes away with a tram or metro. The hostel also has a pretty interesting design
  : I really expected a lot from Generator Amsterdam given how great its reviews are. It’s safe to say that our stay at this hostel was beyond abysmal.Before going in the dirty, let me state the few positives about Generator. Firstly, it has a great style, some of the staff were pretty helpful and nice, and its location was great. A lot of people coming and going every day, so the social vibe is definitely there.Now for the bad…This was my first time staying at a hostel, so I didn’t know what to expect in terms of service and safety. Again, I read a lot about Generator beforehand so booking it was an easy decision.To be on the safe side, we booked a private 4-bedroom with bunks. The room was nice and had everything we needed. Still, I found that some extra amenities were way too overpriced, but that’s a different story. What bugged me the most was the safety of this place.One night, we were hanging out in the lobby to eat some pizza (the pizza isn’t available 24/7, despite what the signs say, so plan your munchies in advance). As soon as we went up, we locked the door which can be only accessed by our keycards and went to bed. Once we woke up, however, we found that my friends’ purse and men’s wallet had been stolen, along with my toiletries bag.We immediately went down to reception to ask whether they had found something, and by our surprise, everything was there! Apparently someone had found it in the park outside with the cash and credit cards stolen. We thought that maybe we had forgotten them in the lobby, but why would I take out a toiletries bag in the first place? We knew that we were robbed, but the weird thing was that the room can be accessed only with a keycard that DOESN’T have a number on it. In other words, we felt like we were being targeted since the rooms can’t be accessed otherwise.Even though there’s a sign that says the hostel records everything and they’re always here for our safety, we hardly felt that way.
